Testing Cocaine

Harm reduction kits are valuable tools for individuals who use drugs, as they provide information about the substances they intending to consume. Here’s a detailed guide on how to ideally test your cocaine using our test kits. Generally, we would advise on getting 4 different types of test kits to have a thorough understanding of your sample of cocaine.

1) Cocaine Test Kit

The first step is to make sure cocaine is present in your sample. Our Cocaine Testing Kit contains a reagent that will react directly with cocaine, allowing you to identify the presence of cocaine in your sample.

How to use our Cocaine Test Kit:

  1. Open the kit and familiarizing yourself with its contents and instructions. The ampoule is found inside the plastic test tube (used for protection during shipping). See our FAQ if you think the ampoule looks empty.
  2. Knock the unopened ampoule several times against a hard surface, so that the granules, which may be sticking to the inside of the ampoule wall, fall downwards.
  3. Take the top of the ampoule between the thumb and index finger, and snap off the top with the ampoule breaker.
  4. Make sure your substance does not contain any lumps, as this might compromise or skew the test results. We advise mixing your substance well. Use the spatula to insert a sample of your substance (~20 mg) into the ampoule.
  5. Use the spatula to stir the solution for 10 seconds until well-combined. Do not leave the spatula in the ampoule, as there is a risk it could melt. Observe the reaction.
  6. Carefully shake the ampoule for 5 seconds to make the color homogeneous. Compare the colour of the solution, to the colour on the back of the instruction sheet.
  7. After use, dispose the ampoule in the trash. Do not use the sample tested as the reagent is harmful is consumed through any means. Use the yielded result as an indicator for the remaining sample.
Use this information to make an informed decision moving forward. Remember that these tests can only provide preliminary information and may not detect all possible adulterants. If the test indicates the presence of cocaine, it does not guarantee the absence of other substances. This is why you should ideally use the rest of the test kits shown below to gain more knowledge.

2) Cocaine Purity Test Kit

The Cocaine Purity Kit is used to estimate the purity of a cocaine sample. Purity is defined by the proportion (%) of active drug in a preparation. This kit includes specific reagents to analyze the concentration of cocaine in the sample, or more simply put, the approximate percentage of actual cocaine in the total substance.

To use the Cocaine Purity Test Kit:

  4. Open one (1) buffer solution tube and insert all the liquid into the ampoule.
  5. Make sure your substance does not contain any lumps, as this might compromise or skew the test results. We advise mixing your substance well. Use the spatula to insert a sample of your substance (~20 mg) into the ampoule.
  6. Use the spatula to stir the solution for 10 seconds until well-combined. Do not leave the spatula in the ampoule, as there is a risk it could melt. Observe the reaction.
  7. Carefully shake the ampoule for 5 seconds to make the color homogeneous. Compare the colour of the bottom layer of the solution, to the colour on the back of this instruction sheet.
  8. After use, dispose the ampoule in the trash. Do not use the sample tested as the reagent is harmful is consumed through any means. Use the yielded result as an indicator for the remaining sample.
It's important to note that the Cocaine Purity Test Kit can only provide an estimate of the cocaine content and may not be as accurate as laboratory testing. The purity of cocaine can vary significantly, even within the same batch, which is why it is important to mix well before testing. Now that you know the approximate purity level, it's important to test for cutting agents or "adulterants" using our next test kit.

3) Cocaine Cuts Test Kit

The Cocaine Cuts Test Kit is designed to identify common cutting agents or adulterants that are often added to cocaine to increase profits or alter its effects. This kit includes specific reagents that react to the presence of common adulterants including levamisole, acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil), Vitamin C, ephedrine, lidocaine, benzocaine and procaine. These are the most common cutting agents as they are generally the easiest accessible powdered white substances to obtain.

To use the Cocaine Cuts Test Kit:

Remember that the Cocaine Cuts Test Kit may not identify all possible adulterants, as new substances can emerge over time. This only checks for the most common ones typically used. Additionally, the presence of cutting agents can vary from one batch of cocaine to another.
You now have tested your sample of cocaine thoroughly and understand that you do in fact have cocaine, you know the purity of your cocaine, and any cutting agents that might be added. Use this information to make an informed decision about proceeding using the substance. The last step is very important as you want to make sure your sample does not contain any fentanyl in it. Fentanyl is the most common cause of overdose amongst recreational substances so make sure to stay clear of it.

4) Fentanyl Testing Kit

Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid that is extremely dangerous. It can be fatal even in small doses. Our Fentanyl Test Kit is used to test for the presence of fentanyl in a substance, such as cocaine, as it is often mixed with other drugs without the user's knowledge.

To use our Fentanyl Test Kit:

If the test indicates the presence of fentanyl, we would advise not using the substance. Extreme caution should be taken as fentanyl is highly potent and can be lethal even in small amounts.

It's important to understand that these kits provide preliminary information and are not foolproof. They can help users make more informed decisions about the substances they are consuming, but they are not a substitute for professional testing or medical advice. If you have concerns about substance use, it's always advisable to reach out to healthcare professionals, harm reduction organizations, or addiction support services in your area.
